MVS Students Meet STEM Icons

On November 13 and 14, the Engineers Club of Dayton held its Hall of Fame Induction & Lectures for Students, and MVS middle and upper schoolers reaped the benefits!

Upper school students in advanced science courses (ADV Biology II, ADV Chemistry II, and ADV Physics II) were able to visit the Engineers Club and attend the lectures given by the 2024 Hall of Fame class, which included Nobel Laureate Shuji Nakamura (inventor of the blue LED, which made the creation of bright, energy-efficient white LED lights possible).

Middle school students had a special on-campus visit from Dasia Taylor, the Engineers Club's Student Honoree and designated STEM Student Inspiration Lecturer. Ms. Taylor rose to national prominence in 2021 at the age of 17, when she created color-changing sutures to detect infection.

Both of these experiences were made possible for MVS by Dr. Sharon Bommer P '30, associate professor of engineering at the University of Dayton.
